One of Jeff Bruchez’s earliest memories is of flying down a Utah trail, on a bicycle, after his brothers, but at 6 years old being too small to reach the brake levers.

“Needless to say, I careened out of control, finding a boulder to absorb my momentum, albeit while inflicting a good amount of damage,” he said of the accident in Park City.

When Aaron Curtin was a student, he would see longtime Bicycle Program coordinator David Takemoto-Weerts around campus and joke with him: “Someday I’m going to have your job.”

JUMP Bikes have arrived — for electric-assist bike share in ��ɫ��Ƶ, Davis and beyond.

Now he does.

Jane Sykes, interim director of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital for the last year, has been appointed to a five-year term in the same position, only with a new title: chief veterinary medical officer.

Sykes succeeded David Wilson as the hospital leader when he became the director of facilities planning in conjunction with the School of Veterinary Medicine’s envisioning of a state-of-the-art Veterinary Medical Center.

When ��ɫ��Ƶ bike guru David Takemoto-Weerts takes a vacation trip to a city, he doesn’t photograph the usual landmarks.

“I’ll ask to see his pictures and they’re all of bike racks,” said his wife, Barbara Takemoto-Weerts.
