‘Face to Face’: A Law School’s Dean Honors its Namesake

Since joining the ��ɫ��Ƶ Law faculty in 1989, Dean Kevin Johnson has centered his work around those ideals of the King Hall’s namesame, Martin Luther King, Jr.: “Being a law school devoted to social justice and social change, and the diversity of our faculty and our student body helps us to pursue those goals.”

Sacramento’s Latino/a bar association recently presented its 2018 Defensor de Justicía (Defender of Justice) award to Kevin R. Johnson, dean of the School of Law, in recognition of his contributions in immigration law.

The association called itself La Raza Lawyers until a name change in 2016 to the Cruz Reynoso Bar Association, honoring the civil rights icon and retired jurist who is a colleague of Johnson’s on the ��ɫ��Ƶ law school faculty. Reynoso is a professor emeritus.

Kevin R. Johnson has been reappointed as dean of the School of Law, a position he has held since 2008. The university’s longest-serving dean among those now in office will start his third five-year term on July 1.
